Frequently Asked Questions

  • Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis to facilitate positive changes in an individual's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. It involves inducing a state of deep relaxation and heightened focus, allowing the hypnotherapist to guide the client's subconscious mind towards desired outcomes.

  • During a hypnotherapy session, the hypnotherapist will guide you into a state of relaxation and increased suggestibility. In this state, they can work with your subconscious mind to explore and address the underlying causes of various issues, such as anxiety, phobias, smoking addiction, and more.

The subconscious mind is the driver behind your autonomic nervous system, memories, emotions and habits.

By accessing the subconscious mind, hypnotherapy aims to re-frame and rewire old neural connections. In it’s place, new positive pathways replace the old negative thought patterns, beliefs and habits to promote promote positive change.

  • What happens during a hypnotherapy session?

Hypnotherapy is a process of combining different therapeutic tools with hypnosis in order to work with the unconscious mind to achieve change. It all depends on the individual needs of the person I am working with. The therapeutic plan will be as unique as you are!

The conscious mind is your ‘thinking mind’ - busy analysing throughout the day. Whereas the unconscious mind stores our memories, habits and autonomic functions like breathing and heart-rate. We are generally unaware of our unconscious thoughts that generate automatic responses. By setting a goal and working with the unconscious mind we can make desired changes to these aspects of the unconscious.

Prior to hypnosis we take time to discuss your experiences, set your goal and give you a taster of what hypnosis is. Going forward we reflect on your progress and chat about anything that is coming up for you as we work towards achieving your goal. This can help you spot any limiting beliefs that might be holding you back. When engaging with hypnosis you achieve a state of deep relaxation, which can be healing on its own. During this time, all you need to do is listen to my voice and relax, while the unconscious mind does the work.

For example, your goal may be to better manage your stress and anxiety. Anxiety often occurs after a chronically or acutely stressful event. This can create a stress response in the body’s autonomic functions (shallow breathing, fast heart-rate, etc). Overtime this stress response begins a feedback loop and becomes dysregulated. Meaning your breathing and heart rate get in to the habit of reacting to stress, leading to anxiety and panic attacks. We can work together to better understand your experience while you learn to better manage and overcome this anxiety.

You can control the anxiety, not the other way around!

  • No, hypnotherapy is distinct from stage hypnosis. While both involve hypnosis, the goals and methods are different. Stage hypnosis is primarily performed for entertainment purposes, where volunteers participate in comedic or theatrical acts. Hypnotherapy, on the other hand, is a therapeutic technique used to help individuals overcome challenges and improve their well-being.

  • Most people can be hypnotised to some extent. However, the level of suggestibility may vary from person to person. A skilled hypnotherapist can work with individuals who are willing to be hypnotised and can adapt their techniques to suit the individual's needs and responsiveness.
